ABSTRACT

The paper is devoted to the study of the influence of the stress-strain state on the mechanical and filtration characteristics of rocks. It can be determined only experimentally. Taking into account the fact that rocks tend to have anisotropy of properties, and the actual stresses are essentially three-dimensional, such study requires a true triaxial loading. The research was carried out using a unique experimental apparatus created at the Institute of Problems in Mechanics of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Triaxial Independent Load Test System. Geomechanical modeling for solving problems related to oil and gas production is presented. The methods of research are described and illustrated by examples of the solution of several problems:

– determination of the influence of the stress-strain state on the mechanical and filtration characteristics of the investigated rocks, both of productive and enclosing formations;

– investigation of the stability of the bores of directional and horizontal wells for a particular field by testing samples cut at different angles to bedding;

– investigation of sand carrying into the well for the geological section of interest by the “hollow cylinder” scheme.

The results obtained in the laboratory were confirmed in practice.
