ABSTRACT
The article discusses new ways of setting up and developing engineering centres. It describes tasks which such centres need to solve due to the transition of the global economy to a new technological paradigm. It gives the example of the Centre for Research in Geomechanics and Mining at St. Petersburg Mining University as a successful research centre and suggests promising ways of developing engineering services for effective and safe mineral resources management.
