ABSTRACT

This chapter addresses key components associated with successful creation and deployment of policy to tackle workplace bullying. Readers will engage with a spectrum of issues including defining bullying and the behaviours that underpin it. Next, the chapter considers what policy is for and the connections between workplace bullying policy and attendant policies including grievance, discipline, diversity and inclusion etc. The chapter considers the establishment of policy, including ownership, policy label choices and ensuring local legislative expectations are properly met for seamless connection to other legal landscapes such as inclusion and diversity and sexual harassment. Readers will engage with the role of lay-advisors and associated voice channels for raising concerns and the challenge of formal and informal approaches to workplace bullying policy, particularly ‘Non-Disclosure Agreements’ and their impact on feedback loops. Finally, the chapter addresses some of the pitfalls in policy making and the importance of monitoring and regular review.
