ABSTRACT

Flood zoning in rivers in different return periods and identifying areas at risk of flooding as non-structural measures and flood management is important. On the other hand, estimating the streamflow at a point of the river is vital for various hydrological applications such as flood forecasting. Therefore, simulating the hydraulic behavior of the rivers, flood damage prediction in different conditions, implementation of river engineering projects, socio-economic justification of flood control programs, and other rivers related studies are necessary. Various one-, two-, and three-dimensional hydraulic models are used for flood zoning. We have attempted to cover essential aspects of flood zoning especially using the HEC-RAS model. HEC-RAS model has been explained and two case studies using HEC-RAS have been included.
