ABSTRACT

The inherent anatomy and physiology of the brain poses obstacles in the way of drug delivery to it. The existence of lipidic blood-brain barrier confers the ability of selective permeation of lipophilic molecules across the brain biological membranes. The nanotechnology based drug carriers have demonstrated success as compared to their conventional counterparts. Among the diverse nanocarriers, liposomes have been explored extensively due to versatility and biocompatibility. The present chapter is aimed to provide an overview of liposomal drug carriers commencing with introduction and embracing manufacturing techniques, applications in variety of brain ailments.
