ABSTRACT

Tea labor is one of the biggest contributors among the organized workforce to the economy of the state: about 17 percent of the total workers in Assam are engaged in the tea industry. Teaching intervention is a common type of intervention that focuses on enhancing the level of knowledge of specific groups of people in order to motivate their behavioral change. It is also an active technique that can be applied to individuals with different backgrounds, knowledge, gender, and level of education. The chosen method for the teaching intervention was based on colorful clear images and posters that easily illustrated safe and unsafe positions, simulating bad postures and comparing them with the good ones. The teaching intervention measures covered the critical hazards and health problems that workers are exposed to every day in their work or inside their communities. The intervention promoted workers’ knowledge and enhanced their occupational safety and health and livelihood competences.
