ABSTRACT

The area of the Carpathian Euroregion, which was established on 14th of February 1993 by the decision of representatives of the cross-border regional authorities of four countries: Poland, Ukraine, Slovakia and Hungary (Romania joined in 1997), is quite diverse in many respects, which on the one hand is very interesting cognitively, but on the other hand, the analysis of such a diverse area poses a lot of problems. In many cases there is lack of “… comparable data characterizing the social or economic situation at similar levels of aggregation. The problem also arises from the extensive administrative divisions in individual countries, whose areas are part of the Carpathian Euroregion” (US Rzeszów 2012, 2015). This causes several problems that hinders the process of comparison of studies or to formulate appropriate conclusions. The study is based on available data on the living standard, published by the Polish Central Statistical Office. In total, 11 indicators were considered, including: GDP per capita, population growth per 1 thousand inhabitants, employment rate, unemployment rate and others. The main objective of the study was

The living standard is one of the most important subject matters in public statistics. It allows to identify areas characterized by low and high standard of living, which consequently results “… the conclusions of an application nature that may indicate problem regions. This makes it easy (…) to lead an appropriate policy, which could counteract the deepening difficulties or the emergence of new problem areas” (Winiarczyk-Raźniak 2014). Thus, to this, the elimination (or limitation) of development disparities, contributing to sustainable development is possible.
