ABSTRACT

The bone scintigraphy is one of the most commonly performed radionuclide studies in a busy nuclear medicine centre. There have been significant advances in both the instrumentation and radiopharmaceuticals in the field of Nuclear Medicine. However, conventional bone scan remains to be an extremely valuable diagnostic test in several benign and malignant bone diseases. This chapter on radionuclide bone scintigraphy describes in detail different pharmaceuticals, imaging protocols in different types of bone scintigraphy study, normal variants and artifacts in bone scintigraphy and, briefly, indications and clinical utility in different bone disorders. Particularly, the chapter presents several illustrations of normal variants and artifacts seen on a bone scintigraphy to enhance the understanding of the reader.
