ABSTRACT

Measuring Rangifer health can be done using a variety of indicators. There are numerous pre-analytical factors that might have impact on haematological and serum/plasma biochemistry measurements and results, and thus introduce bias to the dataset. Haematology and serum/plasma biochemistry can provide insights into the physiological status of an individual, blood disorders and other abnormalities. Reference values are often referred to as “normal blood parameters”. Aematology and clinical chemistry reference range data are often presented as the mean value and the standard deviation as a measure of variation or dispersion of a set of values, generated from the analysis of a representative sample from the population. Storage of samples may also impact serum or plasma biochemistry results. Lipemic samples are slightly yellow to completely white and opaque, and are easily recognized by visual inspection. Haematology and serum chemistry values vary between different animal species.
