ABSTRACT

Industrial/Organizational Psychology is now adding to its repertoire methods and constructs from the study of complex systems. Yet, complex systems theory can also benefit from the study of businesses and institutions because the latter abound in connectivities and scaling phenomena, are easily accessible and observable, and have established metrics of effectiveness. Research findings from Industrial/Organizational regarding group cohesion and conformity as well as emergent leadership are shown to have relevance to the study of complex systems.
