ABSTRACT

One of the leading causes of death in female children and women in all age groups up to 65 years of age is autoimmune disease (AD). However, we have a much better understanding now of epigenetics and the effect of environment on genes being turned on or off. Environmental triggers: Once genetics come into play and the terrain is altered, the immune system has the potential to become dysfunctional enough to create an AD. Oftentimes, when someone is diagnosed with AD, they are offered medications that try to suppress the overactive or upregulated aspect of the immune system dysregulation. The immune system dysregulation can start very early in life and then only show up decades later as pain and AD. Knowing what causes the immune system dysregulation makes it easy then to know what tests to run in order to get the information we need to optimally treat the person with pain and AD.
