ABSTRACT
This chapter begins by presenting background descriptions of the cooperative localization strategies and methodologies. It reviews the current literature and gives an overview of the related work in the field of cooperative localization solutions. The chapter analyzes some of the implemented cooperative localization strategies and explains issues and solutions of the implemented cooperative strategies. The cooperative strategy is based on the participating mobile devices, the environment, the localization techniques, and technology. A new cooperative localization scheme using network-smartphones has been proposed, called unconstrained indoors localization scheme. The proposed or tested cooperative strategies are doing work without the need for predefined constraints or preinstalled localization infrastructure, and do away with inaccurate stand-alone localization techniques. Cooperative localization strategies and solutions have become a huge success mainly because they provide good accuracy for location-based-service (LBS) applications. A stand-alone localization technique or single localization technology have been proven not to be applicable for navigation and localization for most of the LBS applications.
