ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the relationship between multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) and WirelessMANs from three aspects: the capacity of MIMO, space-time signal processing, and diversity techniques. It focuses on the capacity of MIMO systems in Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX) for both single-user and multi-user models. The chapter reviews the codes and then introduce the Alamouti code applied in Microwave Access for Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers 802.16-2004 and describes various diversity schemes for enhancing the performance of wireless channels. It considers the additive Gaussian noise channels with fixed channel coefficients. The chapter analyzes the capacity of MIMO, it is important to note that orthogonal frequency division multiplex is particularly well suited to MIMO technology. It proposes the diversity technique to show how MIMO can improve the reliability in WiMAX and looks at various kinds of space-time block codes used in MIMO and how they are applied in WiMAX.
