ABSTRACT
An introduction to materials management can fill an entire textbook. The purpose of this chapter is to introduce the most important aspects of materials management and for each topic to address the unique issues of the pharmaceutical industry. References are provided for those who want more detailed information about materials management in general and specific areas in particular such as materials requirements planning.
