ABSTRACT

Over the past two decades considerable attention has been paid to understanding the mechanisms and routes by which chemical compounds penetrate the skin. Irrespective of the different theories on mechanisms relating to percutaneous absorption, it is well established that the stratum corneum (SC) constitutes the main barrier (1-4). Thus, it is to be expected that the overall kinetic process will depend mainly on the pharmacokinetic parameters governing the penetration of compounds through this membrane.
