ABSTRACT
The widespread application of graphical symbols on products, in the environment or on technical documents, is an ongoing trend in the field of human-machine communication. Graphical symbols are visually perceptible figures with particular meanings that are used to transmit information independently of language. In comparison to other information transmitting methods, such as text, graphical symbols have some unique advantages namely (Perry 2003):
