ABSTRACT

The ergonomics knowledge and intelligent design system (EKIDES) is a software-based reference system for the design, testing, and evaluation of equipment, workplaces, tools, products, and working environments. EKIDES (formerly known as EDS; see Schmidtke and JastrzebskaFraczek 1992, 1994, 2000) is composed of several modules (Figure 1), including the “Generic design module,” which can be used for nonspecific analysis that utilizes generic ergonomics design considerations, and the “Application for production systems,” which can be used for specific applications. It should be noted that EKIDES is not just a database system, but also an evaluation tool and a comprehensive platform for ergonomics teaching and education.
