ABSTRACT
In the section of this encyclopedia on the safety management system the concentration was on management structure and management tasks. In Bolman and Deal’s (1984) terms, this has dealt only with the structural/rational frame and the human resources frame. The political and the cultural frame were only touched on in passing, notably when talking about commitment and conflict resolution as parts of the plans and procedures level of the safety management system. In this section, both, but particularly the latter, are dealt with more fully.
