ABSTRACT

Thomas B. Sheridan received a BS degree from Purdue University, an MS degree from the University of California at Los Angeles, an ScD degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and an honorary Doctorate from Delft University of Technology, Netherlands. He is Ford Professor of Engineering and Applied Psychology Emeritus in both the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics. As Director of the MIT Human-Machine Systems Laboratory his research activities included experimentation, analysis, modeling, and design to enhance human performance and

safety for air, highway and rail transportation, space and undersea robotics, nuclear power systems, medical systems, arms control, and virtual reality. He has published over 200 technical papers in these areas.
