ABSTRACT

Striped trumpeter (Latris lineata) is a demersal perciform found in cool temperate coastal waters of the southern hemisphere, mainly on the continental shelf over rocky bottoms at depths between 5 and 300 m [1,2]. It can grow to 1.2 m in length and weigh up to 25 kg. It is highly regarded as a food fish especially for the exclusive Japanese sashimi market. It forms a small (<100 tonne year-1) but valuable commercial fishery in Tasmania, Australia. Wild adults spawn between August and October (late winter to spring) at water temperatures ranging from 10-14ºC. The pelagic larvae hatch at a small size and early stage of development and are neustonic [3].
