5.1 Introduction Although wireless local area networks (WLANs) and wireless personal area networks (WPANs) have advanced in recent years, many applications still are not served by current standards and technology. In particular, there is not currently a wireless solution for applications that require greater than 1 Gb/s at ranges of 10 m or more.
