Alveolar ventilation ( https://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"> V ˙ https://s3-euw1-ap-pe-df-pch-content-public-p.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/9781003000631/8eea3057-a092-4cbf-ac61-1c048c87302b/content/math5_1.tif" xmlns:xlink="https://www.w3.org/1999/xlink"/> A) and cerebral blood flow (CBF) are both regulated by arterial blood gases, especially arterial PCO2 , and so are intricately entwined. In this chapter, the fundamental mechanisms linking CBF, cerebrovascular responses to changes in PCO2 , and chemoreceptor control of breathing, including key methodological considerations, are covered in the context of health, high altitude, and congestive heart failure. Future research areas are highlighted throughout.
