ABSTRACT

The pervious concrete utilising recycled coarse aggregate (RCA) is known as sustainable pavement material which has 15-35% void content of the total volume. This study aims to improve the compressive strength of pervious concrete containing 100% RCA as coarse aggregate. Three pre-treatment methods on RCA were applied in the experiment. Ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBS) and silica fume were used in the pervious concrete to replace ordinary Portland cement at 30% and 5% weight replacement level, respectively. Two-stage mixing approach (TSMA) was used as a pre-treatment method to improve the quality of pervious concrete in concrete specimens. It was found that all three pre-treatment methods can improve the qualities of RCA while the effectiveness of TSMA on improving the compressive strength of pervious concrete needs further investigation.
