ABSTRACT

Hybrid beamforming architecture in wireless terahertz systems has recently drawn increasing research attention due to its low complexity and high efficiency. The objective of this chapter is to provide an overview of hybrid beamforming techniques in THz wireless communication systems. The basic concepts and capacity performance analysis of narrow-band and frequency selective hybrid beamforming are described. Moreover, the multiuser scenario and distance-aware multi-carrier modulation are discussed where some important design guidelines considering the properties of THz channels and the capabilities of THz transceivers are presented. Numerical results are presented to understand the performance of using hybrid beamforming in THz wireless systems, based on which some useful insights are offered into the design and implementation of such systems.
