ABSTRACT

This chapter outlines vital steps in creating a specialized dermatology clinic for transplant patients. Unless the subspecialty patient appointments are part of a general dermatology clinic session, there may not be enough patients to support an entire clinical session initially. If this issue is the case, consider seeing general dermatology patients in the open appointment slots initially to financially support the resources and gradually phase out those appointments as the specialty demand grows. In considering the need for support staff, there are two main streams of the patient encounter: the staff needed for the actual visit and the pre- and post-appointment contact. Given the high demand for dermatology services in various regions, patients have to wait several months prior to receiving care. It is important to establish a system of easy access for both the patient and their transplant team to make appointments.
