ABSTRACT

Ovarian ectopic pregnancy is a less common type of ectopic pregnancy where gestational tissues are present in the ovary. There appear to be different etiologic factors, but none is conclusive. Despite advances in imaging and laboratory testing, ovarian pregnancy remains a histopathologic diagnosis. Awareness of ovarian pregnancy may allow timely treatment. In recent years, conservative laparoscopic interventions have become the standard treatment. With improvements in laparoscopic equipment, experienced surgeons, shorter operating times, and expedited hemorrhage control, more cases previously managed by laparotomy became candidates for laparoscopy. The overall goal should be early diagnosis, resulting in fewer ruptured ectopic cases and lower morbidity and mortality rates.
