ABSTRACT
This chapter is an empirical validation of the causes of the Darfur conflict. Three main hypotheses have been tested: 1) land-tenure problems, 2) desertification, and 3) ethnic tensions over the appointment of local administrators for setting local law and order. Probit analysis confirms the validity of these hypotheses. The results may give guidance to the proper channels of reaching a solution to the conflict.
