ABSTRACT

As climate change and global warming affect human life negatively in recent years, it has now become imperative to fully implement the means of sustainable development approaches. Environmental sustainability, one of the three pillars of sustainable development, needs to be well understood and addressed to eliminate these negative effects. However, this issue is still a problematic topic for the business world. The main problem is to reveal and implement an efficient and environmentally friendly production model in less time without reducing product quality. In order to launch this model to be implemented, first of all, it is necessary to develop solutions and strategies to reveal existing problems and eliminate them. The main purpose of this book chapter is prepared according to this point of view to define and examine the problems related to environmental sustainability relevant to environment and development context in both public and private organizations and to provide new strategies and policy implications. Some of the suggestions made against existing these problems are conducting modified Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats (SWOT) analyses in private/public organizations due to environmental sustainability assessments, conducting multi-criteria decision making based method (MCDM) SWOT analyses, launching an LCSA (life cycle sustainability assessment) based decision-analysis framework, digital-based integrated sustainability reporting, establishing green human resources department management, and improving employees’ capacities related to a sustainable way of business.
