ABSTRACT

Environmental education processes are very complex and, to be effective, involve an integrated approach that combines knowledge, attitudes, values and competencies to achieve the environmentally responsible behaviours required in certain contexts. The partnership between organizations is a determining factor to increase the effectiveness of environmental education initiatives and the achievement of sustainable development goals. This chapter presents not only a theoretical perspective that explores the importance of inter-institutional and intersectoral alliances at the university context but also the urgency of moving towards processes of Effective Environmental Education (EEE). Three experiences of networking to promote the effectiveness of environmental education processes in the city of Manizales are analyzed. First, the case of the inter-university alliance for sustainable development: SUMA Ambiental (in Spanish). Second, the case of intersectoral alliances between a university, a cleaning company, and an environmental foundation that has led to the creation of: i) Chair of Sustainable Production and Consumption from values ??to actions, and ii) Waste Separation Program in Education Institutions of Manizales. Finally, the case of alliances between different organizations across a public policy strategy: the Inter-institutional Committee for Environmental Education in Manizales (CIDEAMA). It is concluded that the alliances led by the academy must promote an EEE, which is achieved not only with pedagogical processes but also with social structures that provide people with tools and opportunities to act in favour of environmental conservation in the territories.
