ABSTRACT

The planet’s pollution levels continue to rise dangerously despite the urgent need to reduce them rapidly. Some countries have deployed policies and mechanisms to develop clean technologies that replace the predominant fossil fuels around the globe. The main components of these actions are illustrated here through the analysis of cases from different countries (Germany, China, India, Mexico and Costa Rica) that have been successful both in the installation of clean infrastructure and in technological innovation. However, achievements are worldwide up to now suboptimal, indicating that these actions should be replicated in many other nations and that the effort should be multiplied at high speed. The recent Colombian experience with new renewable energies is also examined.
