ABSTRACT

The world is now interconnected with the help of the network called “Internet.” It allows several computers or systems to connect and share resources with each other. Internet service has made everyone’s life easier, and thus, around 46% of the world’s population are the current active users of it. Internet has both its merits and demerits but the advantages of utilizing it have been marked as the highest privilege a person can get in his or her daily life. Despite having several benefits, there still remain a few dangerous applications of Internet which may ultimately lean toward heinous crimes to occur. This chapter aims to discuss on the three layers of Internet or the World Wide Web (WWW): surface web, deep web, and dark web. Surface Web, also known as the clear net, allows the traditional search engines to be used for the regular necessary information searches. However, deep web comprises a minor, but the most hazardous part of the web andthe Dark Webis the major part which is not indexed in general search engines such as Google and has restrictions and limitations on its use. The officials and the law enforcement agencies are combating to overcome the risks of dark web.
