ABSTRACT

Increased awareness of healthy lifestyles and the need for a comfortable environment has motivated cities to implement green building for their citizens. Green building is construction that meets measurable performance in saving energy, water, and other resources. Bandung is one of the cities trying to implement the smart building concept in several areas. The objectives of this study were to determine the indicators and variables needed to measure the green building index of Bandung. The method applied in this research was mix-method research, qualitative methods were used to validate the variables and indicators, and a quantitative method was used to determine the value or score so as to get the index. Thirty persons from government, business, academia, and society who were selected using purposive sampling techniques served as the resources of data for this study.

The study found six variables – namely, energy efficiency, water efficiency, site management, indoor environmental quality, building management system, and awareness and education – and twenty-six indicators to measure the index of green building in Bandung. The resulting index is 79, which can be interpreted as sufficient and satisfactory with some things still lacking.
