ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was to identify the effect of knowledge sharing on affective commitment with the mediating role of competency development and job satisfaction among Generation Y (Gen Y) employees in Indonesia. As a dominant generation in today’s workforce, Gen Y shows a tendency to change jobs quickly and displays low affective commitment to the organization. Therefore, this study suggests, there is a positive relation between knowledge sharing and affective commitment to the organization. Three hundred and two respondents from Gen Y were analyzed in this study, four questionnaires were chosen to gather data, and structural equation modeling analysis supported model fitting with the data collected. The findings of this study were that knowledge sharing has a positive impact on effective commitment through the mediating role of competency development and job satisfaction. Knowledge sharing in the workplace can increase employees’ competency, and in the same time they can gain satisfaction and finally evoke commitment to the organization.
