ABSTRACT

Human resources is a determining factor for a company, because through qualified human resources, the company can compete with others in business. To improve the quality of its workforce, every company must provide strategies to improve its employees’ ability in work. Career development has become one of the strategies that a company must consider continuously. The aim of this research was to determine whether career development programs affect the promotion of employees of PT. XL Axiata Tbk Bandung. This study used quantitative methods and descriptive research. To get a complete result, this study analyzed a questionnaire given to thirty employees who acted as respondents and formed a sample. Through using a simple regression analysis as a statistical tool, we know that the career development variable utilized in this research has an effect on the promotion of employees of 50.9% while 49.1% was influenced by another factors not examined in this study. As a suggestion, in the future PT. XL Axiata Tbk Bandung is expected to consider employees’ educational background and work experience, which can be appropriate for deciding on promotion. Moreover, the company is also expected to provide equal opportunities for employees to develop their careers.
