ABSTRACT

The monoterpenes secondary metabolites of plants were isolated by extraction and distillation procedures. They are naturally formed from the condensation of two isoprene or isopentane units. Monoterpenes have many pharmacological activities including anti-inflammatory, anti-convulsant, anti-hyperalgesic, and orofacial anti-nociceptive properties. Monoterpenes have also been recognized to stimulate an anti-inflammatory cytokine and decreases the pro-inflammatory cytokines. In this present review, we discussed the monoterpenes mainly, which involved the modulation of the interleukin-10 (IL-10) as an anti-inflammatory mechanism process.
