ABSTRACT

The evolving global business environment is shifting toward high-growth and technology intensity. The growth of new, innovative, science- and technology-intensive enterprises in today's competitive economy is becoming increasingly important. High-tech and high-growth entrepreneurship demands unique business model components. Therefore, the transforming business environment needs to have reshaped the business models for enterprises.

This chapter describes various components of business models for high-growth and high-tech enterprises. The theoretical approach covers and compares the business model components and brings out differences between mainstream, high-tech, and high-growth enterprises. For illustrating the comparison, a comparative empirical analysis is carried out. Estonian high-growth companies from different business fields and technological intensity levels are compared. Estonia was selected because it is a country of start-ups. The Estonian tax system, entrepreneurial environment, and policy favor starting and developing an enterprise. Therefore, Estonia as a 24th country in the Global Innovation Index (GII) ranking gives a good foundation for analyzing high-tech and high-growth enterprises. As a result of this comparison, derived differences between a variety of business models in the high-growth and high-tech enterprises are delineated.
