ABSTRACT
Ransomware is a malicious type of software that prevents the victim from using their computer or accessing certain files until a ransom is paid. Ransomware attacks are on the rise and this is due to the rise in anonymous payment methods such as bitcoin. This form of malware is a serious issue as the victim can be threatened by deleting their information or making it public unless the victim pays the ransom. Even then there is still no guarantee that the attacker will unlock the victim's information. We discuss ransomware in terms of attack vectors, evolution, mitigation and future.
