ABSTRACT

The term microalga is designated to name a diverse and heterogeneous group of microorganisms including prokaryotes cyanobacteria and eukaryotes that mostly have the ability to use carbon dioxide combined with sunlight, macro, and micronutrients present in aquatic environments to perform their photosynthetic process. Studies with microalgae have been intensified with years due to the fact that they represent a heterogeneous group of microorganisms that present interesting characteristics of biosynthesis and bioaccumulation of products, which are excellent sources of raw material for the production of several bioproducts. Kinetic parameters are obtained from mathematical models in order to understand the physiological and biochemical aspects of the microorganisms during cultivation. The kinetic parameters provide quick information about the behavior of microorganisms, in order to more accurately identify the most suitable growing conditions for each potential biotechnological application, taking into consideration each strain.
