ABSTRACT

Herbal constituents efficiently transformed by utilizing technology as biotransformation to diminish the droning process and toxicity of the synthetic compounds. This progression is facilitated by the involvement of microorganisms and their products such as bacteria, fungi, and enzymes. Microbial biotransformation or microbial biotechnology is gaining importance day-by-day and extensively utilized to generate metabolites in bulk amounts with more specificity. The present chapter elaborates on how efficiently microbial transformation use in natural products (NPs) and the results of the most recent developments in the era of natural pharmaceuticals. The scope of the chapter is to demonstrate microbial transformation as a step in the generation of natural pharmaceuticals from herbal constituents. Microbial biotransformation offers various therapeutic applications in the field of various phytoconstituents including steroid drugs and their constituents as terpenes, alkaloids, flavonoids, and polyphenols giving derivatives with improved biological activities.
