ABSTRACT

The present review discussed the various important pharmacological activities of Ficus hispida Linn., which is used as a folklore medication for the healing of various diseases, because of its phytochemical properties, such as antidiarrheal, antipyretic, antimicrobial, astringent, vulnerary, hepatoprotective, anti-inflammatory, antineoplastic, hemostatic, and anti-ulcer medicine. Diverse parts of these plant parts have been used for healing of jaundice, vitiligo, hemorrhage, diabetes, ulcers, psoriasis, anemia, piles, convulsion, hepatitis, dysentery, biliousness, lactagogue, and purgative. The present review revealed the importance of isolation and identification of active principles and it is crucial that to explain the unknown potential of this plant with potent researches in conjunction with the organization of superior quality assurance should be established. The current review forms the source for the collection of plant species for more examination in the possible finding of new innate biocompounds.
