ABSTRACT

This chapter investigates the contribution of ecofeminism to sustainability, and considers in this context the relationship of gender issues with environmental degradation and conservation with the current development model as well as with the violence suffered by women and the environment. Jacobi et al. recall that the relationship between women and nature is not recent and that the reflections that establish the symbolism of the feminine and its proximity to nature are deeply present throughout the history of humanity. In this context, ecofeminism is characterized as a determining factor that seeks to bring a voice to women and nature that have historically lived an experience of oppression and domination. Gender relations have been incorporated into international agendas and have been instrumental in building the vision of sustainability between society and the environment.
