ABSTRACT

This paper aims to demonstrate the design progress of the Yazdi-Bandi as one of the main features of the Iranian Masonry structure that helped architects to build domes on top of the rectangular platforms to apply as a generator of parametric forms. Analysis of geometric characteristics and understanding how Yazdi-Bandi transforms from a two-dimensional pattern to a three-domination form plays a key role to write the algorithm for parametric forms, which can be developed as intelligent or dynamic forms or surfaces. Categorizing and geometrical analysis will be considered to address the following questions: What characteristics of Yazdi-Bandi have the potential to be applied in a parametric algorithm? How can they be applied in parametric digital design? Afterward, by categorizing the studied cases, Yazdi-Bandi in Timche of the Bazar of Qom has been chosen because of its originality, and as a result, using Yazdi-Bandi as the generative algorithm of parametric form can be suggested.
