ABSTRACT

The ocular surface is comprised of the cornea, conjunctiva, eyelids and the lacrimal glands. Any alteration in the delicate balance of these structures can result in ocular surface disease (OSD). OSD is a spectrum of conditions that occur due to the disruption in the external and internal milieu of the ocular surface and includes dry eye disease, blepharitis, meibomian gland dysfunction and may occur secondary to allergic eye disease, Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS) and chemical and thermal burns that result in limbal stem cell deficiency. OSD can affect vision, hamper the quality of life and can even cause blindness in severe cases. A 24-year-old female with a history of undergoing corneal refractive surgery one month prior presented with complaints of foreign body sensation, burning and itching in both eyes. A 40-year-old female presented with complaints of foreign body sensation, irritation and watering for the past six months.
