ABSTRACT

Trachoma is a chronic keratoconjunctivitis primarily affecting the superficial epithelium of the conjunctiva and cornea simultaneously presenting as a mixed follicular and papillary response of the conjunctival tissue. The disease is characterised by recurrent or persistent inflammation of the conjunctivae after many repeated infections with an intracellular, obligatory bacterium Chlamydia trachomatis serotypes A, B, Ba and C. The donor cornea remained clear on follow-up with good morphological outcome following lamellar keratoplasty with no interface haze.
