ABSTRACT

Contact lens (CL) wear is becoming more and more prevalent according to a number of reasons, including cosmetic, refractive, myopia control, and therapeutic uses. It has been estimated that over 140 million people around the world use CLs. The resurgence of scleral lenses, with their ability to vault the cornea by creating a tear reservoir between the cornea and lens, not only aids visual rehabilitation with enhanced comfort but also leads to a myriad of complications as some patients may experience poor tolerance and diminished comfort over time due to impaired CL surface wettability and poor CL hygiene. The patient responded well to the treatment with the vessels regressing in three weeks leaving behind a residual macular corneal opacity measuring approximately three mm with a best corrected visual acuity of 6/6. Overnight use or extended wear of disposable CL is an important risk factor for keratitis.
