ABSTRACT

The chapter provides an analytical review of modern publications on the study of changes in the optical and structural properties of tissues in in vivo studies on experimental models of diabetes mellitus in laboratory animals, as well as for in vitro models of glycation of biological tissues and in clinical studies. The review summarizes the description of different experimental models of diabetes mellitus and the use of various optical methods for the diagnosis and monitoring of the pathological effects of diabetes mellitus on tissues and the cardiovascular system.
