ABSTRACT

The Soil-Water Characteristic Curve (SWCC) for red clay of high plasticity has been determined with suction control techniques such as membrane pressure, and vapour equilibrium with acid and saline solutions. The behaviour of the sample for high suctions (ψ > 1 GPa), applied using solutions with high acidic concentration has been observed. During the process, the sample dimensions have been measured, and the law of free volumetric deformation in wetting and drying paths has been determined.
