ABSTRACT
This is the story of a Vietnamese-American’s journey to explore how to increase workplace health capacity in Vietnam and facilitate the exchange of occupational health expertise between the two countries. It is a story of personal grace and perseverance. Many significant individuals and prominent institutions are woven into the story, and they all play important parts, but the thread that holds them all together is the narrator, Mr. Tuan Nguyen. Relying on personal relationships, professional connections, and excellent credentials, Tuan describes the steps he has taken to connect occupational health professionals in Canada, Australia, and the United States with occupational health professionals in Vietnam. His knowledge, skill, and deep understanding of human nature bridge the gaps that can often prevent effective cooperation and mutual respect so necessary for building international pathways and networks.
