ABSTRACT

As developing countries become more industrialized, the global need for trained occupational hygienists will continue to increase. To meet the need, international volunteer organizations and governmental agencies focused on worker health and safety have stepped in to provide training and other resources. Vendors of occupational hygiene equipment and services have also contributed to long-term sustainable growth of the profession by making both a corporate commitment and an economic investment in targeted regions. Online resources from vendors include free webinars, videos, and short courses on select topics along with technical support from scientists. Vendors also establish offices in the region staffed with well-informed representatives who provide training and support of the occupational hygiene community in the native language. Vendors often provide equipment grants, equipment loans, and international speakers to assist in local efforts. Finally, vendors provide a source of revenues for professional associations to grow and prosper providing a forum for networking and information exchange among members.
