ABSTRACT

Congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH) encompasses a group of disorders with impaired cortisol synthesis. It is one of the most common autosomal genetic disorders. The most common form of CAH is due to 21-hydroxylase deficiency. Although some women with nonclassic CAH require treatment with steroids prior to pregnancy to induce ovulation, chronic steroid use or steroid use during pregnancy is not typically necessary. All patients with classic CAH require lifelong treatment with glucocorticoids and mineralocorticoids. Pregnant women with classic CAH should continue treatment with hydrocortisone or prednisolone and fludrocortisone throughout their pregnancy.
